World preview of new technology at IBC

At IBC, Cintel will be unveiling GRACE, a unique grain reduction system,
developed specifically for its C-Reality and DSX film scanners.

"GRACE offers our industry the best of both worlds," Adam Welsh, managing
director of Cintel explains. "For those who prefer the classic filmic grain
look, then GRACE will probably be used in a very subtle fashion. And for
those requiring a look that is more akin to the cleanliness of video, then
GRACE can provide any degree of grain removal to suit your need."
GRACE has been designed to work in all resolutions, and is film gauge and
image format independent. Fully programmable and using 14 bit RGB image
processing, GRACE provides grain reduction without the need for recursive
filtering and additional frame stores which cause associated delays. As
GRACE is frame by frame independent, grain reduction is continuous over
scene boundaries, and moving scenes do not smear.

"Exhibitions are an ideal platform at which to test and launch new ideas",
explains Adam Welsh. "Last year at IBC we previewed our new film scanner
DSX, complete with OSCAR - and GRACE will be following the same development

GRACE will be available from 2003 and can be fitted to any C-Reality and DSX
film scanner. It is fully compatible with OSCAR to provide superior image
restoration during film transfer.
