BBC Again...

As you all know, the BBC transmits the Queen's Christmas speech at 3PM.

The producer had sent written instructions that the film was only to be run
ONCE and ONCE ONLY.

So, as happens for all transmissions from tape or film, the Network ran the
film (to check it was the correct one - they have on the 'Transmission Form'
a written description of the opening sound and picture) so everyone knows it
is the correct version. The film is then re-cued for the TX slot. All
machines are run remotely so they can be accurately timed.

So, at about 2.30 the Network director pressed the RUN button to look at the
opening of the piece. He was then horrified to see the remote control had
been removed and the film kept on running. It ran out completely, leaving an
open TK gate.

He rang to find out what the problem was. The supervisor pointed out the
contents of the Producer's letter and REFUSED point blank to rewind and
reload the film, by now, the TK was sending bars and tone to line!

It is now 15 minutes to air.

The Network director then had to call the producer at home to DEMAND that he
called the TK suite to retract his letter.

Needless to say, behind the bars and tone, the TK was already rewound and on
the leader.

Needless to say the speech went to air and nobody ended up in the Tower (of
London).

Oh what fun we had.
