One of the things about the DPX standard that I've found maddening is  
that some variants (like monochrome) aren't supported by many  
programs that claim DPX compatibility.

We do a lot of archival monochrome work, usually 10 bit log 2K, and  
often have to end up in some RGB format (wasting a lot of storage  
space) in order to use, say, After Effects.

It would be nice if the SMPTE insisted that any product claiming DPX  
compatibility had true compatibility!
