Thanks to oktobor for supporting the TIG

Today's TV is largely paid for by advertisements. With the video
server approach, there can be "free" content which has obligatory
advertisements inserted into the programming, or there can be the same
programming available for an extra fee which can be watched without
the advertisements. Material organized as "channels" is likely to
include the obligatory advertisements while material selected on a
program basis could be watched without the advertisements.

Wouldn't it be great if one day revenue could be generated by charging a
fee for providing content, and in addition slipping in advertisements?
Alas I suppose that will never happen.
