GraphicsMagick can be used to accomplish this in conjunction with 
'dcraw' from "http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/".  Dcraw seems 
to be the only comprehensive solution available.  It is written in 
such a way that it needs to be used as an external utility rather than 
a library.
