[Tig] Advice Wanted on Rank ADS-1

A friend and FX associate of mine just asked me to ask the group if anybody
has any advice on how a local LA non-profit organization can get a
newly-donated Rank-Cintel ADS-1 solid-state telecine up and running.

I made some inquiries to some local engineers, but their response was very
negative. They felt the machine was "too old," that parts were "too
difficult to obtain," and also felt the machine "was not capable of making
usable pictures without spending many thousands of dollars in repairs and
alignment." All of this makes sense to me, given the ADS-1's relative
rarity and age.

I also pointed out to my friend that the problem is not only how to get the
machine up and running, but also the need for a good monitor, VTRs, machine
controllers, and so on -- all of which are expensive and complex. Film
transfers, even done as a modest facility, are not cheap or simple to do.

If anybody wants to get in touch with the people in LA who have this machine
and give them advice, the email addresses are:

Steve Worth <sworth at animationarchive.org>

John Ellis <spfxu4ea at speakeasy.net>

Thanks in advance!
