 We came up with a novel concept that
involved transferring each neg strip to separate 1"
tapes, then feeding the output of each into a separate
input of an RGB to NTSC encoder. 



 I remember doing this with Ralph Sargent at Film Technology when I worked there. We would master to records to D2 and feed them into seperate DCT inputs
and the final record was done live off the telecine into the third DCT input.

 He is/was able to master an entire feature that way, I seem to remember doing quite a few.
