To answer your last-paragraph questions:

Some folks on the list (particularly Europe) may be familiar with the  
MWA Nova MB51 multiformat mag machine.

The company has a long history in film sound equipment dating back to  
the 1930's.

MWA Albrecht GmbH introduced the MB41 syncable Mag recorder player in  
the early 70's and launched the MB51 in 1980.

The company became MWA Nova, GmbH in 2002 and continues to provide  
the MB51 and a variety of other devices for film transfer and filmout.

The MB51 can sync to pilot-tone or bi-phase, which should make it  
relatively easy to work with your FDL's.  I suspect you could use  
timecode->bi-phase converters to track timecode.

Still in production with improvements along the way, more than 2500  
MB51's have been installed.

It handles 16, 17.5 and 35mm mag film with a variety of head stacks  
and gentle handling.  An optical replay head and Mag head for Vinegar  
Syndrome affected mag stock are available.

I e-mailed the factory about your 8mm fullcoat situation to see if  
they could assist. Will advise when I hear something.
