Then you and I had the exact same evolution in editing, I also started
on a standup Editec system (you had to erase any timecode on the
master in order to use channel 3 for the cue beeps!). Our HS200 was
shared between Edit 1 (editec) and Edit 2 (cmx) and I learned a lot
about GPI programming from it. The editec room included a GVG 1000 or
1100 switcher, with a downstream fader added. Our Ampex 2000 quads
easily locked up in 10 seconds, we were proud of getting the
discriminators and oscillators set well enough for quick lockup,
though the strength of the control track recorded was also definitive.

The "normal" TLC lockup for Ranks and 1" VTRs was 5 seconds, though at
times it had to be 7, and we enjoyed making it 4 when things were
really working well.
