And there was no still store much less a disk recorder, I imagine.
Anyone who used the SteadiFilm SteadiGate who forgot to check the
tension of the takeup side on the Rank only did it once. Unfortunately
the one time I forgot was when we had to shuttle down 300 feet in a
reel to the scene we wanted to pin transfer, and when I finally
noticed, there was 300 feet of original camera negative on the floor,
in uncountable loops, twists, mountains, and roller-coaster moebius
intertwinings. The client unfortunately was right behind me and we
shared a look of incredulity. The amazing thing was, when I applied
reverse tension on the supply side, the entire mass of negative rolled
right back onto its reel perfectly. Cleaned it and was able to
continue career.
