found a USB powered dual-fan laptop cooler that i will have to  
compare with
a repair of the laptop (battery life another consideration) at Vantec.

thanks to all.   (ps.  I doubt that both fans would fail at about the  
same time
without some kind of problem with the TAU (thermal assistance unit).
But an estimate from Apple, if I can afford the wait, could be worth it.
