fuzztone. we used to get it by just removing one of the tubes from
our guitar amps.
in video, it might make a great 3rd party product, which begs the
question for me, has there been or will there ever be a 'loop'
capability in televisions where you'll be able to add your own
processing device, or upload your own algorithm? (by 'loop' I'm
referring to the ability in audio boards to export and reimport the
signal through an external device; also done in video with patch bays
etc.) Which also makes me wonder if there are high-end TV
receivers that have knobs instead of on-screen layered menus.
There's nothing like the chunking/clunking sound of the multicontact
ganged channel selector of old TVs, I wonder if any modern receiver
manufacturers ever had the sound sampled for use... analogous to
having the ringtone of an AT+T Bell set in your cellphone. And
before you think nostalgia is another form of Luddism, consider that
changing the channel on my friend's interactive-digital cable system
includes about a one-second delay, and then at least one momentary
window that obscures the image, so doing program searches without
referring to their approved "menu channel" is very difficult.
regards
Rob
