My school is in the preliminary stages of looking for options re: used telecine. Most important factors:
Ease of use. We don't want a "fussy" machine. We want something operates predictably with minimum of voodoo. In other words we'd be most happy with a unit that produces decent results 99% of the time with minimum contortions, to a unit that produces incredible images but only if the stars are aligned correctly and the operator has to spend an hour or two of setup time. We want only the process\film to present problems to the colorist not the nuances of the machine. Yes that's it, a machine with minimal nuances.
Ease of service. (Does changing a bulb require major disassembly?)
Stability.
Cost of maintenance.
Availability of parts
Minimal special environmental & electrical requirements. Yes we'll be able to provide a clean-room, dedicated ac and exhaust, but 3 phase power probably not.
Pedagogical usefulness. Hey it's a school. We'd like a unit that will to some degree incorporate current industry procedures.
Any must to avoids?
Any further advice?
Thanks so much in advance!
