In another life (more than 40 years ago!!!) I was employed by the British Forces Broadcasting Service in Cyprus. Part of the job was to relay the SW broadcasts of the BBC News on MW and VHF.
We relied on ionospheric transmission to get the programmes and it was almost possible to set a clock by the time that the several frequencies became available. I remember becoming anxious if a particular frequency was 5/10 minutes late in appearing. Bearing in mind what is being done to the atmosphere these days, is ionospheric transmission still as predictable?
There was also a local ducting effect where Beirut TV became available in Cyprus shortly after sunset.
Happy Days
