Sounds like you need to work in a company that does more
work on music videos.
TVC's are good for this as well, given the right clients,
although a lot more restraint is required in the carefull manipulation of 
color palettes.

I think perhaps compressed HD digital broadcasts and flat panel monitors 
have a lot
to do with the pulled back lo-con grades seen currently on Air. Both
make heavy handed work look shit and easily expose faults in the
transfer.
