Just received a our factory repaired G-TECH 500GB Raid 0 enclosed drive
the unit was attached to a G-5 Dual and started to refuse to mount by
either FIREWIRE 800 or 400
after just 4 months of backup operations. Unfortunately to preserve
the warrantee we couldn't open the unit
to check and had to 'bite the bullet' allowing them to destroy our
data in the repair of the unit, so I still don't know the make of the
drives inside... Don't know for sure what caused the G-TECH to fail,
but the power preference panel revealed a incorrectly set
preference---Anyway the tech said that you must check that the APPLE
COMPUTER
SYSTEM PREFRENCE to 'put the hard drives to sleep whenever possible'
is NEVER checked!
So any hope of a "GREEN PC" was dashed and now our macintoshes are on
24/7 like all those PC's that refuse to STANDBY, HIBERNATE or play
nice with external drives..
