Thanks Dave Corbitt, Glen Chann, and Bob Friesenhahn for very  
informative responses.  I think for my specific application the ATSC  
specs will fill me in on the HDTV digital formats.

I am somewhat chagrined by having to purchase a specification (the  
ITU ones for rec 601 and 709) when they are desired for altruistic  
purposes.
