[Tig] Aaton sync in suite

We saw a big improvement in the time it took us to sync even the most complicated dual-sync dailies when we installed our Aaton system. Even without Aaton code, my assistant can easily track the slate claps while he's importing the audio into InDaw. During transfer it's a matter of a few seconds to match the claps and off we go. It's just a few mouse clicks, no entering slate data. I used to dislike syncing in session as it really interrupted the color flow, but now it's very manageable. As has already been posted, the gains you achieve depend upon the type of material you have. Lots of short takes will still slow you down a bit, but it's still a big improvement. And by being able to lay down an entire flat in one pass, there's a near eternity of preroll time saved!

If your client uses Aaton code, and uses it properly, it's another story altogether. Syncing becomes a non-issue as the audio is just there, in sync, as if they had shot video. With the Keylink there is virtually no significant audio pause between takes.

There is a little bit of a learning curve but it's really very simple once you get the hang of it. Alain at Aaton has been a terrific help to us as we got started, and quickly implemented our suggestions into code updates. At this point comes the standard disclaimer, I am not affiliated with Aaton in any way, just a very satisfied customer.
