Hooray for Craig! Sense at last!
Apple have done an astounding job with Final Cut Pro, and I am sure
they will do an astounding job in time with Color (although it needs
a lot of work at the moment).
Final Cut Pro brought real, professional quality editing tools to the
masses. They are so good that actually quite a lot of professionals
use it, but the main aim of Final Cut Pro is to bring professional
quality editing to the masses - 800,000 licenses sold. At the NAB
event launching Color they explicitly said that they wanted to do for
colour correction what they had done for editing. Which is bring it
to the masses.
Apple's interest is in delivering Color to those 800,000 Final Cut
Pro users, and if that sells them a few eight-core Macs along the way
then it will pay for the development. If professionals find a way of
using Color that is a bonus, nothing more.
