[Tig] End Credits at the cinema - topic drift

Hello all

For what it's worth, I've read that, in French, 1907 can be either "mille
neuf cent sept" or dix-neuf cent sept", though the former is far more
common, at least in France (may be different in other francophone countries
such as Québec {insert smiley here}). I have no qualified references to
cite, but I have never heard "vingt cent sept", only "deux mille sept" for
the current year.

I do realize that these observations have no real bearing on the format that
is/should be preferred in English (or "American"), but I would find it
interesting to know how the other languages/cultures represented on this
list, such as German, Spanish, Portugese, and also our Asian colleagues
express dates.

Of course, it is doubtful that in most cases the century being discussed is
truly ambiguous, so a simple "oh-seven" would probably suffice most of the
time. Dropping the leading zero, though, does seem a bit much, so that a
statement such as "yes, that came out back in five." seems a bit peculiar.

As for Bob's question that came in while I was typing this, I think we're in
"the zeros".
