Hello all,
Apologies for the long time in answering. We're in the middle of
construction and its keeping me quite busy.
1. Is there a final plan for the film scanning system or systems?
The LOC has a Spirit Datacine for film captures of most motion
picture film. For the paper film prints (which were submitted in the
early 1900s on paper instead of film because the copyright law at the
time only covered items printed on paper) they have a custom paper
film scanner.
For copyright submissions in the future the LOC is considering
accepting submissions as D-cinema, possibly by direct electronic
deposit.
2. Can you describe the media for your offsite backups?
Two types of storage are planned for day one: an enterprise-class SAN
for online access and tape backup for long-term storage. Which tape
format for long-term storage or where it will be located is not yet
public information. Site and path diversity for storage are both
primary considerations.
I hope this is a good start!
