I think you have a good sense of it, Joe. There are folks editing
with FCP that haven't begun to use the full set of tools due to the
depth of the toolset or the fairly simple needs of their projects.
Similarly, even though the new FCStudio comes with Color, I'd opine
that many of the purchasers won't use the application in the
heavyweight manner that occurs in the color grading business.
As you say... "what may become evident is that the Color application
does
require infrastructure -- at the very, very extreme least a reliable
colour environment -- or the consequences of working blind will
become very apparent."
What I do expect to see popping up over the course of the next few
years are experienced colorists with the infrastructure in place
offering their services to FCP users who aren't able/aren't
interested in doing it themselves, and colorists with experience in
using Color and outboard tools training people who ARE interested in
using Color how to use the tools well.
Maybe that's another curriculum segment for Stephen Bradford's
Collins College and other schools to offer.
Music Theory and performance are taught in secondary and post
secondary schools. Why not the art and science of Colorist?
Ted.
