Sorry Tyler, you're wrong here. It's happening right now. Ascent Media (
CO3 ) has "Satellite" color stations available around the country
available for clients to work with CO3 colorists. There are 2 editorial
companies in Chicago offering this service. Clients can schedule a
session and work with Stephan long distance. However, it's not as simple
as the Gentleman from B&H suggests. It's not Photoshop with a calibrated
LCD. I work with printers all the time and we have just begun to
calibrate dpx files for print. Video is a whole different story, though
I must admit it seems to be working well for CO3. I assume it works for
DI sessions ( and that could be Pablo, Eq, Speedgrade, Scratch, Resolve,
etc. That company has a lot of assets and manufacturers claiming to have
sold them gear ), especially those in linear space. I know for a fact it
works perfectly well for Davinci style sessions.

The main complaint I hear about this setup is from clients that want to
be in the same room as the colorist. Body language, eye contact, tone of
voice all matter in an agency session. Good thing I'm here in Chicago to
help them with that. Otherwise, why wouldn't everyone just color with
Stephan? Or Bob. or Jais...... etc. It can and is being done.

For the record, I am mainly talking about high-end national TV spot work.

Sorry to spoil the party - can someone pass the Kool-aid?
