I don't think the trend will reverse in industrialized nations as long as
technology advances and people feel the increasing population crowding them.
Ever watch two teenagers standing ten feet apart text message each other? I
see it all the time. They'd rather do that than talk to each other.
How about under 30 year olds walking down the street in shades with ipod
headphones? Hard to be in public and be more isolated than that.
I'm guilty myself, preferring in most circumstances to shop online and deal
with some issues by email rather than talking to strangers in person. There
are 14 million people in Los Angeles County, and I want absolutely nothing to
do with almost all of them.
I will grant the likelyhood, however, that a massive nuclear war will bring us
all much closer together...
