Hi folks,
I was sitting around today on this idle Sunday and
decided to watch Happy Feet on DVD. After doing a bit
a research on the net I came to realize that it was
graded on Digital Vision's Film Master. Now my
question is this, how does the workflow for 3d
animation features (like Happy Feet) work when it
comes to digital color grading and vice versa.
There are numerous processes involved in 3d animation
(lighting, shading, textures, render engines etc ...).
How would the 3d artists output their renders (DPX LIN
or LOG)? And most importantly how would they know that
their renders would be "correct" when going back onto
film. Would they use preview LUT's on their computer
monitors from the get go or leave it to the colorist
at the end of the line ?
Curious ...
