Hi Robin!

I think what started this discussion was the idea of people sending their
work overseas (did somebody say Mumbai?) to be worked on by cheap (and
presumably less talented/experienced) labor on low rent systems. Would
people do that? I think that clients in general tolerate remote sessions for
the advantage of working with more experienced talent, not less. So while I
can see someone in Chicago remoting into a top colorist in LA or Ollin for
that matter - I¹m not convinced they¹d remote to work with a commodity
service in India, for example (at least, not on projects that are
quality-sensitive).

Ollin has great talent and systems, so remoting to Ollin to me seems just
like remoting to Company 3, etc.. And since a lot of DPs don¹t actually live
in LA, it may not make much difference whether they¹re flying to LA or
Mexico City. Bottom line I think it¹s like you said: the client goes where
the talent and resources are.

That all said, I¹m opening my mind a bit more to remote sessions. It¹s done
in VFX all the time, of course, but I¹ve never observed it first-hand in
color. I guess I¹ll have to watch it some time...
