I saw a SMPTE Hollywood meeting a few weeks ago which had
11 or so new monitors arrayed across the front of the theater.
The black levels of the devices were literally all over the place.
Some had better and more accurate response in the
shadows than the others although none were as good as a
CRT.
One of the interesting conclusions I walked away from is that
given current limits in LCD technology, there is little reason
to pay 25K when some other panels had almost as
good performance. It does require a real close look
to determine if it will fit your needs. But price does not
seem to directly correlate with quality given the current
state of this technology.

(the JVC wasn't part of the lineup so I haven't seen that one.)
