The output transfer characteristic of an image has never been
standardized. Most of the references to a 2.2 gamma image in video have
been talking about the camera model. sRGB did standardize
a transfer curve for output and used a gamma of 2.22 but this
is intended for computer image output. Rec709 didn't describe
the rendering intent of the system, but did assume that it would
go out on a CRT with a gamma of around 2.5. So be careful
about using sRGB for video work as the intended gammas
for video need to be slightly higher.
