I have read that at least one vendor (Sony?) was planning on
delivering an LED-based rear-projector with more than the traditional
RGB. This is likely easier to do using LED-based rear-projectors than
with any other current technology. With today's use of ASICs, FPGAs,
and DSPs, support for more primary colors in consumer devices becomes
quite feasable.

Regardless, when wide-gamut is introduced, it is an appropriate time
to ditch the long legacy of CRT-based video technology. Today's
products are emulating a 67 year old CRT-based delivery chain which
will not exist at all in a few more years. Let's follow DCI's lead
and describe colors in a device-independent manner which is also
designed to make best use of available bits.

In the mean time, display vendors should strive to meet already
established standards rather than differentiating themselves based on
how they can creatively corrupt the image.
