Thanks for the compliment, Ted; of course, the broadcast was a group
effort by a lot of talented and dedicated people.
The workflow is typical for CBS News; most of the material was captured
on XDCam (SD at 24p), along with some 16mm for cutaways (transferred by
Tim Bond at DuArt here in NYC). The title cards were generated in-house
in Smoke. Those elements, along with additional footage sourced from CNN
and CBS News archives was ingested into a pair of Avid NewsCutter
Adrenalines and output to Beta SX tapes which I then graded on a da
Vinci DUI. The video layback was to D2; audio was remixed in Pro Tools
and output to DigiBeta. The color corrected and remixed tapes were sent
to online for finishing (again to D2). Not entirely state-of-the-art,
but it got the job done.
