We use both Sony and Fuji D2 stock. I usually erase and reuse my 3- and
12-minute D2 reels week after week.

And don't laugh -- we only recently moved our last two quad machines
across the street to Archives, and that only to give up some machine
room real estate to CBS Worldwide Distribution. As you rightly point
out, there really IS a "sheer number" of 2" tapes that get pulled out of
storage and dubbed on a regular basis. Heck, we still transfer 16 and
35mm film on three Rank ADS II's (one of which I found for us while
browsing eBay!)
