[Tig] writer's strike news

The deals the studios are suspending are mostly overhead and
development deals with companies headed by writer-producers who do
not currently have shows in production. (In some cases, the
studios are seeing the strike as a way to get rid of unproductive
deals that they feel will never result in shows...) At least for
now, the studios are keeping deals with companies that have shows
in production.

The effect on post-production in the US will likely be limited to
TV for quite a while. Most scripted shows have at least some
episodes written and those will continue to be shot and go through
post. For many shows, that means the TV pipeline won't be empty
until Jasnuary.

In the feature world, the effect on post won't be felt for many
months. Studios have spent the past 18 months gearing up (buying
scripts, greenlighting and competing for cast on movies, rushing
projects into production) so they can get their movies finished
before the SAG contract expires (June '08). That means that the
next six months are likely to be very hectic production-wise and
there shouldn't be any real let-up for feature projects in post
well into next year.

If SAG goes out, that's when all hell will break loose...
