[Tig] Guilds, Unions, Clubs...

I'm guessing the real difference is that for the most part today a  
Union is mostly a bargaining unit, and doesn't really administrate  
any kind of internal skill standards, while a Guild should.  While it  
could be seen in some circles as "elitist", there are reasons why it  
is a controlled situation to become a member, say of the ASC.  It  
does involve more than being able to read a scope, for instance, or  
being "Apple Certified".  At some point, however the danger is that  
any organization will become an "old boys' club", but depending on  
how much money the old boys have, it either ossifies or is burned  
down.  Both of which probably deserved.
