The legacy continues. Amy Helm (daughter) is in a band called
Ollabelle- great vocals and musicianship, not over-produced; just clean
crisp lines all the way. Demos were cut in Levon's barn-studio, which
he still uses to host "rambles" every couple of months. Levon has a new
album out too (I think it's been released by now) that harkens back to
the early Band days. All worth a listen, if you like that kind of
thing.

mention of coal miners brought to mind Levon Helm (musician/actor, who
was in the film Coal Miner's Daughter, and was the drummer/singer
for The
Band in the 60s and 70s). The Band had a song on their second album
titled
"King Harvest has Surely Come" which was an ode to union work in the
fields of
tobacco or cotton. My favorite lines from that song are
...and I'm glad to pay those union dues
...just don't judge me by my shoes.
a beautiful song (unfortunately not included in Scorsese's excellent
film of The Band, _The Last Waltz_).
