re: writers strike

In my very humble opinion, it seems Michael Bittle has
the best insight on what is really at stake. The
media sphere has changed and the writers are less
engaged in a battle with 'large heartless
corporations' a la Huffington post, but more
realistically dealing with an electronic revolution
the likes of which hasn't occured since the heady days
of cristal radio sets and hand cranked telephones.

The entire biosphere of the' creative artist' is being
upended by the flood of home brewed content whereby
the medium is, finally for everyonw to plainly see,
the message. Youtube is a more powerful force than
'CSI Miami' by far and if the writers are worried (as
they should be) just think of the advertisers.

The writers work for the advertisers (albeit
indirectly) and the show would not go on if Cialis and
Ameriprise were not paying for it. These same
advertisers are seeing their dollars shrink and their
message being diluted by the onslaught of consumer as
producer content. In fact this very content is more
akin to a telephone conversation than a movie script,
which is why the writers are losing their grip on the
process. Who scripts a phone conversation?
Telemarketers do. If the writers don't find a way to
re-tool, that might be their only option left.
