Well in all honesty, the ads are the real programming.  The programs are just ads for the ads.  The fact that DVRs have circumvented traditional ad placement is only going to drive out the programs and make the ads become more ubiquitous.  The screen will likely look more like a Japanese website than what we used to know as a TV program, the show will take place in a smaller window, a la Bloomberg TV or CNBC.  The trend was started by the news networks and will grow to engulf the entire spectrum soon.  Have you noticed how the new Fox financial channel keeps its banners running during the ads...
