I relocated to LA from New York City in 1983, and while working with  
a famous colorist at an excellent facility was chagrined in having to  
make numerous trips to the film cleaner before transferring the  
film.  The dirt problem seemed to get worse as the summer wore on,  
and Bob remarked to the client "it's the Santa Ana winds."   I must  
admit I laughed heartily, thinking he was following in the grand  
tradition of blaming the Santa Anas for crime, restlessness, bad  
moods, inflamed tempers.  He was of course right, as not only the  
dirty air  but the static caused by low humidity were responsible.
