Dirt is still a big problem in 35mm. It may be that you don't notice
it as much because of how hard labs and scan houses work to get
rid of it. Most serious scanners are now in hepa-filtered clean rooms,
all rolls go through a film cleaner before hitting the scanner, great
care
is taken to keep hairs and grit out of the gates, automatic dust busting
and/or IR scans are used and despite all of this, manual
dust-busting can be one of the largest line-items in a D.I. budget.
The standard today is perfection in the frame and even one hit in a reel
is often enough for a client to ask for a new neg.
