[Tig] Scopes

Ah, the callowness of youth.
Yes, I was informed a couple of years ago that colourists wouldn't be
needed at all, and in the very immediate future. "All done at the
push of a button."
So I'm confused on a couple of issues, now. If its all done "by
eye", how can the scopes/machines/ "special button" be of any help?
And, on the other hand, if its all down to a machine's choice, why
bother?
Reminds me of the old adage.. there are old pilots, bold pilots, but
no old, bold pilots. Think of it this way: why bother with all
those cockpit instruments like altimeters, attitude indicators,
airspeed, artificial horizon, engine temperature... fuel gauges, you
know all that confusing stuff, if you can "fly by eye"?
Sounds like someone just doesn't know how to read a scope.
