[Tig] AMPEX D-1 tape issues

Hi David,

Are you also having similar problems with D2? Even when it was
new D2 seemed a very fragile medium. We had many cassettes that
had hits at the end of a new one-hour transfers and had to be
scrapped.

There were masters at Universal of our preservation/restoration
work on "An Evening with Fred Astaire" (the earliest known color
2-inch tape of an entertainment program) that were found to be
bad after several years. They went back to the "Clones" stored
at UCLA and inserted corrections from them.

Having two copies was the only way they were saved.

| Has anyone had issues with playback of AMPEX D1 tape?
|
| I have noticed that masters created in the early 90's on AMPEX
stock seem to have playback problems. Has anyone noticed this and
perhaps have a workaround?
