A really easy, stupid way to do it is to run the file on the second (S-Video 
out) screen of a laptop and record it. I do this when I have to make a DVD 
from some weird Divx or whatever file, which only VLC will play. Your screen will 
be limited to VGA, but it'll look surprisingly good. For a higher screen 
resolution, either use one of the many screen capture programs and shrink it in a 
compositing app, or use a hardware scan converter.
