Are you saying that the industry does not know what it is doing yet?
Stu's blog makes it pretty clear that the industry *does* know what it
is doing but that the same old stuff is being duplicated in somewhat
different incantations in such a way that knowledge needs to be
manually tranferred from one tool to another. The creator does not
currently have a way to see what his work will look like after
currently dictated rules have been applied. He tosses his work into
the hopper and someone may come to tell him that the work did
not acceptability survive the process so he needs to redo the work.
It seems to me that with Stu's proposal, the number of traditional
Colorists could be reduced, but with more control being added earlier
in the post-production process (as has already been occuring) and
better interoperability between tools. Many corrections could be made
earlier in the process, and it might not be necessary to backtrack so
far if someone decides that a gross correction needs to be made.
