Evaluate your local digital reception capabilities here:
http://www.antennaweb.org/
The site does not use the highly technical term "rabbit ear" anywhere.
In fact, they do not include indoor antennas in their estimator even
if you might be able to use one since their behavior is so
unpredicable.
Every home owner in the USA should make sure that they have a fully
functional outdoor antenna on a mast. We have an inalienable right to
erect television antenna masts up to 12 feet above the roofline, and
they may be taller if necessary to obtain good reception, and the
contruction is safe. The FCC rules regarding over the air reception
are summarized at "http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html".
