This is one reason why the current channel allocation will be a big problem.
Currently, DTV is broadcast in the UHF band, and that never will permit
local stations to have the same reach as their VHF channels. Network
stations will find their service area shrink to almost 50% of the current
range. Even with 1 million watts ERP or more, UHF just doesn't have the
coverage - Even from Mount Wilson. It is possible that the FCC will allow
repeaters for some situations, but there are only so many channels.
Tiger Direct sells a UHF indoor antenna for $49. It is highly rated, and is
somewhat directional. It should reject a fair amount of multipath for good
reception. I would hesitate to call it rabbit ears, but it is a set-top
unit.
