you can, after the minimal registration:

choose your own avatar- from the stock ones, or upload your own, or  
provide a link
    to an online image.
selectively subscribe to forums (which are under the 'categories'
change your skin (will soon be more available, but the Pro default one  
is nice)
send personal messages and be advised of their replies by email
edit your profile (TIG dating service will of course soon follow)-  
enter your birthday,
    at least, so it will show in the calendar.  Next feature: sex- 
offenders dating service
edit your signature
edit your photo
ignore certain users
look up and list members
check the TIG calendar to see what's happening (hint: Jan 15-16 in L.A.)
enter the TIG wiki preserving your login
select to be advised via email of any new posts or replies to forums  
you choose
archive messages and posts

if ever lost in a deep menu, just scroll to the top and click on the  
TIG color-wheel
    icon to return to the categories/forums

questions don't hestitate.   This took a bit of work and even a few  
dollars - it's
   not open source- to install, configure, debug, extend, and figure  
out.
