Not completely true, but you DO need one to get into any screenings...
Actually, much as I hate to admit it, I've been looking at the new one as a
potential replacement for an aging four or five year old Treo which has been
dropped enough times to make it suspect in terms of reliability.
The thing definitely has some serious gaps in its functionality, but then so
does every single other device out there. Once I actually played with one for
a bit, it became obvious to me that the interface and "user experience" are
really very, very good, and unlike every single other cell phone currently
available in the U.S., the service providers have not been able to take a
decent piece of hardware and simply disable key features they didn't want
their customers to have, as they've done with all the rest.
It's always a big surprise to see how much more useful the same model phone is
in another part of the world than it is here. Crippling hardware is a way of
life with the idiots who provide cell service in the U.S., and Apple has so
far managed to avoid that - any stupidity about the hardware or software is
in-house.
