The UCLA Film and Tape Archives and Archivist Dan Einstein has a treat:

A chance to see—TOMORROW (Fri. July 25, 2008)—the restored version of
television's oldest surviving color videotape along with several
other historic Quad recordings that have been restored.

The story of the restoration of the 1958 dedication of WRC-TV's color
facilities and several other tapes is being told on http://
www.quadvideotapegroup.com, a website about the first practical form
of electronic television recording.

http://www.quadvideotapegroup.com/images/C...f-WRC-Color.jpg was
taken July 17, 2006 during a special TIGer tour of CBS Television
City arranged by TVC Colorist David Keleshian.

Don Kent and Ed Reitan were there. They have been corresponding—just
this month—with the website's secretary about the WRC-TV restoration
and how it came about. More information will be posted the first week
of August in what is a fascinating story that's part technical, part
Hollywood.

If you're IN LA or nearby, this would be a unique opportunity to see
how good Quad can look, even when it's 50 years old.

The location is:

The Billy Wilder Theater
UCLA/Armand Hammer Museum of Art
10899 Wilshire Blvd. (corner of Westwood Blvd,)
Los Angeles

It's three intersections EAST of the I-405 freeway. Exit at Wilshire
and go east.

Here's what's on the program according to the UCLA Film and
Television Archive:
