We did some 8k dailies filmouts for Dark Knight.

The BFI is much better practised in handling dailies screenings - the
Science Museum really isn't used to dailies. Strangely enough, it's now
the case that the BFI is so busy with Dark Knight (they've sold out even
the 2am and 5am screenings for several weeks ahead) that we're having to
use the Science Museum so we can view out latest filmouts - the BFI just
can't fit us in at all.

I reckon you're right. I'll ask Paul when I see him or Andy Lockley
(DNeg's compositing supervisor) next. Bear in mind though that DNeg's
pipeline was all floating point, so a single 8k frame in Shake would have
allocated 805MB and 32 bit applications are limited to addressing 4GB
Back to the subject...
What about filmout? All current generation film recorders run out of
resolution around 5.4k but it's possible to build a much higher resolution
recorder utilising a large crt if there is demand for it. One off crts
will be jolly expensive though, and then there's the cost of supporting
camera, lens, electronics and software.
