On the early blueprint schematics of the Chyron II system, the draftsman
labeled all drawings as KYRON. Was that an original name that got
changed or was the draftsman pulling too many draughts?
As more than one editor remarked, "What's a Chyron 4, anyway?"
<snip>
As a former employee of Systems Resources Corp, the prior name of Chyron Telesystems, later to become Chyron Corp., I can say with certainty that the original drawings were identified as Chiron II.
The Chyron IV (later 4000 & 4100 & 4100EXB) was a bit-slice microprocessor
that emulated the CHIRON II machine code base and used some more modern and faster ICs to reduce the size of the machine by about 8-10 RU.
Unfortunately, they kept using their proprietary 8 inch single-sided single density floppy disks as well. (Wanna' buy a copy of the formatting program?)
