You would have to go back to the days of 'Paper' to find info on
this :-) SMPTE Journal from the 40-60s
has tons of articles on CRTs.
Generally, performance over the lifetime of the CRT leads to
diminished brightness
less pure colors
fluctuating brightness
unstable white point
uneven colors across the face of the tube
failure modes/mechanisms are
failure of deflector circuits (horizontal or vertical)
power supply failure
phosphor aging
phosphor burn
phosphor delamination
loss of vacumn in the tube
oxidation of the cathode and/or cathode depletion
loss of feedback/gain circuits
These are the most obvious that are CRT dependent.
Then there are just the general electronics dependent
failures. What happens when the remote control receiver
goes out and none of the setup menus are available
anymore?
